Self-consistent formation and steady-state characterization of trapped high-energy electron clouds in the presence of a neutral gas background

This study considers the self-consistent formation and dynamics of electron clouds interacting with a background neutral gas through elastic inelastic (ionization) collisions in coaxial geometries similar to gyrotron guns. These remain axially trapped as result crossed magnetic field lines electric equipotential creating potential wells those used Penning traps. Contrary standard traps, this study, we consider strong externally applied radial which is same order that space-charge field. In particular, combination geometry, fields, residual (RNG) present chamber induce non-negligible particle transport ionization. paper, cloud density currents resulting from electron–neutral are studied using 2D3V particle-in-cell code. Simulation results parametric scans hereby presented. Finally, fluid model derived explain predict peak current depending on RNG pressure.
